Why Hot Classes Are Great Preparation for Summer ☀️

Heading somewhere warm this summer? Whether you're travelling to Greece, Italy, Bali, or simply enjoying the warmer days at home, there's one unexpected way to prepare your body for the heat.

When most people think about preparing for summer, they think about booking flights, finding the perfect swimsuit, or planning their itinerary.

But what if we told you that your next hot class could help too?

At Equal, many of our classes take place in rooms heated between 26°C and 36°C. While most people come for the physical and mental benefits of movement, training in the heat offers another advantage that becomes especially relevant during summer.

What happens when you train in the heat?

When you exercise in a warm environment, your body starts adapting.

Research shows that after around 10 to 14 days of regular heat exposure, your body becomes more efficient at regulating its temperature. You may begin to sweat earlier and more effectively, cool down faster, and feel more comfortable in warmer conditions.

Over time, heat adaptation can help:

✓ Improve your body's cooling system
✓ Support endurance and cardiovascular fitness
✓ Increase circulation
✓ Reduce the strain heat places on the body
✓ Help you feel more comfortable on hot summer days

💪 Stronger for Summer

Beyond helping your body adapt to warmer temperatures, training in the heat can also be a great way to challenge yourself physically. Whether you're joining us for Yoga, Pilates, Barre, or Sculpt, regular practice can help build strength, endurance, mobility, and body awareness.

Let's be honest: feeling stronger never hurts either.

Not Just for Elite Athletes

Heat training isn't a new concept.

Athletes often use heat acclimatisation before competitions in warmer climates to help improve performance and reduce the impact of high temperatures. Ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, for example, many athletes incorporated heat training into their preparation due to the expected heat and humidity.

The good news? You don't need to be an Olympian to experience the benefits.

Whether you're spending your holiday exploring a new city, hiking in the mountains, relaxing on the beach, or simply cycling through Amsterdam on a warm afternoon, being more comfortable in the heat can make a real difference.

And while there are plenty of reasons to love a hot class already, knowing that your body is quietly adapting in the background is a pretty nice bonus.

So next time you step into a heated studio this summer, remember: you're doing more than just getting a great workout.

You're helping your body adapt, building strength, and preparing for the summer season.
