Back in 2016, friends Bastiaan and Martijn opened the first Equal studio on Linnaeusstraat in Amsterdam. They saw an opportunity to create a more approachable yoga experience — one that felt welcoming to both first-timers and experienced students.
The idea was never that everyone is the same. Quite the opposite. Everyone walks into the studio with different experiences, abilities, goals, and reasons for being there. Some come to build strength, some to find balance, some to challenge themselves, and some simply to take a moment for themselves.
But once we step onto the mat, we're all Equal.
Over the last 10 years, a lot has changed. What started as a single studio has grown into a community across Amsterdam and Utrecht, with yoga, pilates, sculpt, mobility, and thousands of members moving with us every year.

While the classes, studios, and community have grown, the belief behind Equal remains exactly the same.
As the words on our studio walls remind us:
"Tall, short, heavy or light. Rich, poor, black or white. Young, old, bendy or blue. We're all different, but Equal too."
Ten years later, we still believe movement is for everybody. For the body, for the mind, and for the simple feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself.
And that's exactly what we'll be celebrating on June 23rd and 24th at the Geertekerk in Utrecht and the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam, with the biggest Equal classes we've ever hosted.
Not just 10 years of studios, classes, and sweaty workouts, but 10 years of the people who made Equal what it is today.
