We are all different, but Equal too.
“Pressure creates diamonds”
Having taught classes in the Himalayas after her 500-hour teacher training, she now loves to put the power into yoga back in Amsterdam.
To stay inspired and to keep studying, she travels yearly back to India. The mother of yoga and ayurveda. Breath, focus and steadiness are the key elements in her classes but always taught with a smile.
“To conquer oneself is a greater victory than to conquer thousands in a battle”
Working day and night as a marketing professional, Iris took her first yoga class in a small studio in Amsterdam and immediately fell in love. After exploring various types of yoga with national and international teachers and travelling through countries like Sri Lanka and the United States, she completed her first Vinyasa Flow teacher training a few years later. She feels especially inspired by the powerful and equal way in which yoga allows you to reconnect with yourself and the people around you.
“People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it”
Daniel started with a Bikram class 12 years ago in San Francisco and got hooked ever since. Shifting from Hot Yoga to Vinyasa and eventually Ashtanga trained. He is excited to teach a blend where the best of both worlds meet.
Besides being a yoga teacher he's also an actor popping up now and then on Film and TV.
He feels very fortunate and grateful to be able to practise his two passions in life. And encourages everybody to follow his or her heart in whichever form it may be.
“Believe you can and you're halfway there”
Juni believes that the practice of yoga and mindful living enables her to cultivate the ability to find happiness in each day, realizing that every experience holds its own beauty. She quit her corporate consultant job and started a worldwide yoga journey, teaching in idyllic tropical places and joining many teacher trainings. She loves to inspire and help others to find their own power and happiness in life.
“Change starts here and right now”
After an injury due to professional speed skating, Robbert found his ‘cure’ in yoga. And after several teacher trainings, he has now been teaching for 6 years. Acknowledging himself that he is one of the least mobile persons makes him understand better what students are experiencing. Robbert runs, cycles, skates, does bouldering, climbing, wakeboarding, boxing and the list keeps growing.
“We don’t mature through age, we mature in awareness”
Anna has a background of movement: gymnastics, dancing, surfing and climbing. Yoga was the link to combine her skills. Working with people, coaching, personal development, being active and……having fun. Educated in Power Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga (500-RYT) Anna is constantly expanding her knowledge. Her classes are active and relaxing at the same time with a lot of room to explore your own capabilities, on and off the mat.
“Make an attitude to be in gratitude”
Roos & Yoga crossed paths for the first time in 2008 while she was living in Florence, Italy.
From that moment she was amazed by the many benefits it brings for both mind & body.
Aside from doing lot of yoga her hobbies include living/researching a healthy & sustainable lifestyle in food and fashion.
“Life is growth”
Yoga has taught Karen about herself, made her softer and stronger person at the same time.
Being on the mat, being alone with one’s body, thoughts and breath to guide you, can be a wonderful way to practice life.
She finished her vinyasa teacher training a few years ago now and Karen loves to keep learning more and more about yoga and therefor life.
“Embrace your own light and darkness, it makes you feel whole”
During a personal gap-year in 2014, Esther discovered Vinyasa yoga in Amsterdam. Yoga made her re-discover the connection between mind and body. After practically ‘living’ at a Yogastudio for half a year, attending so many classes, she decided to register for a 200- hours yoga teacher training to get to know the basics of yoga. So she is a world of yoga-wisdom at our Front Desk. Welcoming people and make them feel at home in our studio is what she really loves!
“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough”
Introduced to yoga at 19 by a visionary hockey coach who taught him Sun Salutations as the perfect warm-up, Bastiaan continued practising long after he’d hung up his hockey stick. And when he threw Hot and Power into the mix to his yoga practice, the seeds for Equal Yoga were planted. His hobbies include cycling, watching his three boys grow up, and his wife. Though not necessarily in that order.
“The first step is the easiest – and the hardest”
Influenced and inspired by yoga since the late 90s, Martijn co-founded the first Equal studio in 2016. He believes Equal Yoga – with its tough yet fun classes – will inspire the lives of everyone who gives them a go: no matter what shape they’re in, what age or size. He loves Amsterdam. Not just because it has great yoga studios, but also fantastic parks and bars.
